A must-see place for any trip to Mexico City. Huge open plaza with quite possibly the biggest flag you'll ever see. There's always something happening here with a wonderful atmosphere.Full review by James_McCawley

Me estaré quedando en un hotel frente al zócalo y quisiera saber si de noche se puede caminar por los alrededores sin peligro, asistiremos a un evento en Bellas artes q debe terminar alrededor de las 10 pm y no se si podré regresar caminando al hotel por el tema de la seguridad a esa hora de la noche. Please don't count any time I might spend in a church, museum, or separate attraction on the square. I'm trying to figure out if this is a 2 hour, 4 hour, whole day, etc. kind of thing.

2 hours should be plenty of time to walk around and visit the church & possibly the museums. This is definitely not a whole day thing, after 2-3 hours you would want to get some rest …

Yes, they are still doing it. I was there a few weeks ago and they still had the ceremony. It was awesome to see.
