Shootings in the NYPD's 24th Precinct, which covers the northern end of the Upper West Side, are relatively rare, according to police data. Last year through Dec. 29, the precinct had four shootings, down from six in the same period in 2023.

Ten people – including some minors – who were waiting in line for a private event at a nightclub in Jamaica, Queens, were injured late Wednesday night in an apparent drive-by shooting, New York City police officials said.

About 30 shots were fired before the gunmen fled on foot and were then seen getting into a sedan with out-of-state plates.
