The Biden administration announced Friday it would extend temporary deportation relief of nearly 1 million people from El Salvador, Sudan, Ukraine and Venezuela, just days before Donald Trump enters the White House with a vow to restrict the program.

The Department of Homeland Security says about 600,000 Venezuelans and more than 200,000 El Salvadorans already living in the United States can legally remain another 18 months

Some 937,000 immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine and Sudan could benefit from the extension of temporary protections.
