Disney's "Lilo & Stitch," the animated version from 2002, is one of the rare underdog stories that entertainment behemoth has managed.

Luckily, though, Lilo & Stitch is sufficiently well-executed ... retro alternative to the studio’s usual pop ballads. Stitch himself is, at least at first, a refreshingly bad egg.
