Police in San Jose are investigating after several plainclothes officers were involved in a shootout involving multiple suspects late Monday night.

San Jose police Tuesday morning were investigating an officer-involved shooting late Monday that resulted in no injuries and no arrests.

San Jose police said undercover officers returned fire at an unknown number of suspects –  who they said shot at them first -- and then fled the scene.

A man who says he was brutally mauled by a San Jose police K-9 is suing the city and the Police Department. Police have said the man was a stabbing suspect who did not come out of his apartment after they warned they'd be sending in a dog.
