Some of you may think it’s too early, but nevertheless, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced when the 2025 tax season officially starts. And, too, when people can expect to get their refunds. According to an IRS press release, people can begin filing their taxes on Monday, Jan. 27.

New Jersey residents will have a new way to file their federal tax returns this year. The program, called IRS Direct File, was tested in 12 states during the 2023 tax filing season. It’s been added as an option for New Jersey taxpayers for the 2024 filing season, which officially starts on Jan. 27.
