More than a dozen people identified by the previous administration as members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers and arrested for involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol Riot were pardoned this week by President Donald Trump.

A day after U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping grant of clemency to all of the nearly 1,600 people charged in connection with the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, America’s far-right celebrated. Some called for the death of judges who oversaw the trials.

Stewart Rhodes and Enrique Tarrio, who received some of longest sentences for the US Capitol attack, freed from prison.

President Donald Trump has defended his decision to pardon people convicted of assaulting police officers during the attack on the Capitol and suggests there could be a place in U.S. politics for the Proud Boys extremist group,

U.S. Capitol, and Tarrio and Rhodes received the longest sentences of anyone charged in the attack. Both men were prosecuted for helping plan the insurrection, and both were convicted of seditious conspiracy.

Enrique Tarrio, one of the people pardoned by President Trump in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, tells CBS News' Jason Allen that the media should not call him "ex-Proud Boys leader," although he clarified the organization has chosen not to be public about the organization's structure.

Stewart Rhodes and Enrique Tarrio were released from serving lengthy prison terms for convictions of seditious conspiracy.

Henry Enrique Tarrio, the ex-chairman of the Proud Boys, a group the Anti-Defamation League classifies as right-wing extremists, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison following his involvement in the events of January 6th.
