The "out of" here indicates the motivation or reason for the asking. It does not mean: I have run out of curiosity. although that would be the case if you had said "I am out of curiosity".

May 30, 2021 · "Out of curiosity" is a general phrase. It means you aren't asking the question for a special reason. You're simply curious. It's useless in your example -- the sentence would be better without it -- but it sounds natural enough. A better example than "a lot of money" is asking a salesperson "out of curiosity, how much does that cost?".

Mar 27, 2023 · Very rigorous public school here- excluding freshman year people would probably take 2-5 (!!) a year, but i've seen people want to take 6. in reality, i'd guess the average skewed more towards 2-3 APS a year because there is a very, incredibly, way too vocal minority of students who either flex or freak out about the insane amount of APs they take
